Police officials in Udaipur, Rajasthan have come up with a WhatsApp group that helps new and expecting mothers. The group has been created by women cops and has 150 members. In the initiative called 'Hello Mommies', the cops, especially lady police officers, are interacting with expecting mothers directly to find out if they are facing any discomfort. SP (city) Gopal Swaroop Mewara and three deputy rank officers Chetna Bhati, Sudha Palawat and Prem Dhande came up with the idea of creating a group. It is said that the group has helped several pregnant women to connect to hospitals and medical services. Chetna Bhati, one of the group administrators said, “Jawans and constables on checkpoint duty have instructed to identify such women in their areas who could need medical or any other form of assistance, even at beyond permitted hours or at night. We are feeding their numbers in the group so that they may reach us directly in case they require any kind of assistance during the curfew period”, Dy SP Prem Dhande said, “In some homes, where men have been taken to quarantine facilities, ladies and children are left with no help for getting essential items or medicines and in such situations, they can reach us.”
