IRCON must be blacklisted
The national highway between Surathkal and Nanthoor constructed by IRCON Company gives rise to potholes every monsoon. After the rains, the repair work is undertaken. A strict condition must be placed that the applied tar must last for at least 5 years. The responsibility of repair work must also be given. On non-compliance to the rules, the company must be immediately blacklisted and all the bills pertaining any other works done by the company must be put on hold. Only on strict implementation of such rules can the problems plaguing the highways ne improved –

Danger along Peramogru bridge as well
The massive potholes along NH 75 between B C Road – Uppinangady is causing much trouble to the traffic. The work on expanding the road is proceeding at snail’s pace. The minor bridge at Peramogru is full of potholes and the supporting structure of the bridge seems to be on the verge of collapse. Retaining walls have been created with reflectors as a temporary measure –

Gangman is required for highway as well
NH 75 between Mani-B C road is filled with massive potholes and is creating new accident prone zones. The rain water is not flowing properly into the drains beside the road and instead inundating the road. the stagnant water is also destroying the tar thereby giving rise to the potholes. If gangman similar to the railways is appointed with required equipment to carryout emergency repair works during the monsoons season, people’s lives can be saved and accident free traffic is possible –

Udayavani appreciated for its work
The people of Dakshina Kannada district are peaceful and intelligent. But noticing on how the four-laning work between Addahole-B C Road along Mangaluru-Bengaluru national highway has just become a memory since three years and the silence of the representatives of the people, it becomes clear that they are not at all interested about development. It has become inevitable that the MP puts in pressure on the highway department of the union government to get the problem solved. “Udayavani” has drawn the people’s attention towards this on multiple occasions and I appreciated the social work by the paper

Travelling along such roads after paying the toll is deplorable
Of the highways passing through our district, the highest vehicle density is along NH 75. The number of accidents laong the route is also more. Several years have passed since the work began to expand this road. Presently, the work has been stopped for a variety of reasons. But the pits dug during the construction work on the side of the road still remain, and this has given to a situation where the daily commuter passes under great danger. During the night when there is rain, it is simply impossible to differentiate between the road and the potholes. Not even an enemy should pass through the dilapidated road between BC Road and Uppinangady. Not limiting to this, why should we travel via such road by paying the toll? The government, representatives of the people, officials must finish the work quickly and provide a fully functional road. NHAI needs to keep aside its reasons and take action soon to put an end to the problem –

Construct an overpass
The NH proceeding towards Moodbidri beside the overpass at Jayashree gate near Bikarnakatte in Mangaluru is pretty narrow and is also full of potholes. This is a persisting problem since many years. The national highway department and MCC must make a contract, bear the grant together and construct an overpass between Mallikatte and Bikarnakatte road and between Akashvani and KPT road. The road beneath should be six-lane. If this is done, traffic density will be reduced and smooth traffic is possible –

Boulder in a dangerous state at Kotyakal
A huge boulder located in an elevated area beside the road at Kotyakal situated in between Shiradi and Gundya road along NH 75 has suffered cracks and is on the verge of rolling down on to the road. It may be noted that this is not due to natural calamity. This occurred after the contracting company L&T resorted to removing the rocks for widening the road. any unable to achieve it, they have stopped abruptly. But neither NHAI nor the elected representatives are worried about this. The road in reality is like the surface of the moon. The respected transportation minister hastily implemented the new drastically increase traffic fines. But there are no roads of that standard. At least, reduce the insurance charges and tax. Then at least the expenses behind the maintenance of the vehicle and fuel consumption while passing on the roads like the surface of the moon be equalized –

Not just toll collection
It is true that the highways are spoilt. But this year, due to more rain, it became impossible to apply tar during the rain. Instead of that, alternative repair works could have been undertaken. Other than collecting toll charges at Brahmarakotlu, they will not even repair the road right in front of it –

Accidents due to barricades
The unscientific road dividers along NH 75 and 66 is the primary cause for the accidents. This need to be rectified scientifically and proper signage board must be installed. Barricades are hindering the easy flow of traffic and are also causing accidents. They need to be removed. “Udayavani”’s concern regarding safe travel along the highway is appreciable –

Administration needs to wake up
The feeling of the daily commuter along NH 75 and 66 is beyond words. Action should be taken to awaken the administration system towards the problem being faced by the people. People of Mangaluru, Melkar and Mani, travel along the highway by keeping their hearts in their hands. This definitely is our disaster –
