Horata Samiti demands dismantling of disused tollbooths at Surathkal

Surathkal: The dilapidated toll booths at the now discontinued toll plaza at NITK Surathkal are posing a danger to motorists. Surathkal Toll Gate Horata Samiti demanded the immediate dismantling of these structures, so as to avoid any tragedies.

The Samiti said that many petitions have been submitted to the authorities for clearing the unused booths. Despite this, maintenance work on the highway without clearing the unused structures is a waste of public funds, it alleged.

It took 7 years of struggle to vacate the “illegal” toll gate at Surathkal. The unused, unsafe structure is still not being dismantled even after 9 months since the closure of the toll gate, it added.

Why have the MPs and MLAs not demanded to dismantle the structure, the samiti members sought to know.

The Samiti members, including Munir Katipalla, Purushottam Chitrapura and others, also warned of protests if these unused booths are not cleared soon.
