In Mangaluru city, rains abated from morning till noon on Sunday. Rains pick up in the afternoon.
The incessant rains continue to cause destruction in both Udupi and Dakshina Kannada. In Udupi, the Agumbe Ghat road has been closed due to a landslide. Similarly in Dakshina Kannada, a tree fell on to the road at the 8th turn of Charmadi Ghat, disrupting traffic for an hour. Traffic came to a standstill for an hour after a minor landslip on National Highway 75 at Donigal in Sakleshpur.
Low-lying areas have been waterlogged in the heavy downpour. As many as 17 houses have been damaged due to wind and rain in Udupi. A house was damaged after a compound wall collapsed in Harihara Pallattadka in Sulya taluk of Dakshina Kannada.

IMD has announced a “Red Alert” till June 13 after the predictions showed heavy monsoon rainfall to continue. Strong winds accompanied by sea swells are expected, it said.
The inclement weather also affected air travel on Sunday too. Flights departing and arriving at the Mangaluru International Airport were delayed due to the bad weather. SpiceJet tweeted that the changed flight timings due to the delay caused by weather. “#WeatherUpdate: Due to bad weather in Mangaluru (IXE), all departures/arrivals and their consequential flights might get affected. Passengers are requested to keep a check on their flight status via //bit.ly/2tG9xBx,” it said.
Dasara school holidays to be cut short
District administration announced holidays for schools on Monday in both districts.
The schools have remained shut for a week now due to the harsh weather conditions. Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner Dr. Rajendra KV informed that the schools will remain open full day on Saturdays and the Dasara holidays will be cut short to compensate for the loss of learning hours due to the Monsoon holidays.
