Mangaluru: Advising Vishwa Hindu Parishat (VHP) district president Jagadish Shenava not to blame U T Khader, Dakshina Kannada district Youth Congress president Mithun Rai asked Mr Shenava to instead blame Prime Minister Narendra Modi, as India stands first in beef exports in the international market, thanks to the Union Government’s support.

Mr Rai addressed the media at the District Congress office on Monday, October 15th and said, “If Shenava is so concerned about the protection of cows, he should blame Modi-led central government as it is actively supporting beef exports. Instead he has accused U T Khader of earmarking Rs 15 crore for the modernization of slaughterhouses at Kudroli under the smart city project. Mr Khader did not keep Rs 15 crore to modernize the slaughterhouse; he only suggested the idea of modernizing the slaughterhouse in order to give priority to cleanliness.”

Modernization of slaughterhouses in different regions

Mithun gave statistics on the funds earmarked by the central governments for the modernization of slaughterhouse in different regions and said,” The Union Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MOFPI) has earmarked a maximum of Rs 68 crore and a minimum of Rs 15 crore for the modernization of slaughterhouse in different regions. Why did Mr Shenava not oppose this? Why is he quite when some followers of Hindu outfits engage in illegal cattle transportation? If he is so concerned about cattle protection, why did Shenava attempt to rescue those accused in the last three incidents of illegal cattle transportation in the district, belonging to Hindu outfits?,” he asked.

Accusing Mr Shenava of attempting to incite communal violence through his provocative speech, Mr Rai said that the BJP’s opposition to the modernization of the slaughterhouse is only for vote bank politics. “If not, why did not the BJP leaders, ministers, MPs and others approach the Union Government demand to stop their slaughterhouse modernization project?” asked Mithun Rai.
