Indian Coast Guard rescues 264 stranded fishermen

Bhatkal: Karnataka Coast division of Indian Coast Guard has rescued more than 250 distressed fishermen in a major operation on Wednesday, December 3. As many as 264 fishermen were stranded in an area 225 – 250 nautical miles (450 – 470 Km) away from Coast owing to two cyclonic streams in the Arabian sea. The fishermen, so rescued were provided with food and first aid. In this operation, Coast Guard has coordinated with a Dornier aircraft, five Indian Coast Guard Ships- Samudra Prahari, Samar, Savitribai Phule, Amal and Apoorva along with the help of merchant vessels. Apparently, eight Coast guard ships and three Dornier have been assigned to search for people in the Arabian Sea. The Coast Guard is also taking the help of shipping authorities to look for merchant vessels passing through the region so that they can be requested to join the mission.
