The inclement weather prompted most fishermen to call off their activities as a cyclone formed in the Arabian Sea due to low pressure. Waves of considerable height were observed at sea, causing boats from Malpe to seek shelter in Goa and Karwar ports.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an orange alert for Udupi and Uttara Kannada districts on September 29, with the alert remaining in effect until the morning of September 30. Additionally, a yellow alert was issued for Dakshina Kannada, Bidar, Kalaburgi, Chikkaballapur, Chikkamagaluru, Kodagu, and Kolar districts.
