Joint rescue operation in Udupi saves children from child labor, begging

In a collaborative effort involving multiple government agencies, three children found engaged in fishing at Malpe port and a mother with a child found begging have been successfully rescued and presented before the Children’s Welfare Committee in Udupi district.

The operation was executed by a coalition of authorities, including the District Labour Department, District Child Labour Project Association, District Legal Services Authority, District Children Protection Unit, Social Welfare Department, Children’s Helpline, and Udupi District Citizen Committee.

Upon presentation before the Children’s Welfare Committee, the committee issued directives for the children’s rehabilitation and welfare. In accordance with these directives, a young boy was placed in the care of Balakara Bala Mandira, while two female children were provided shelter at Balakiyara Bala Mandira, both of which are institutions dedicated to the welfare and support of children in need.

The mother, along with her child, was entrusted to the custody of the Social Welfare Department, ensuring their well-being and protection.

The operation was conducted under the guidance and participation of esteemed individuals, including Senior Judge and District Legal Services Authority Member Secretary Sharmila S, Project Director of District Child Labour Project Association Amrutha, and staff members from the Children’s Unit, Children’s Helpline, and the Social Welfare Department. City Station Police personnel also played an integral role in ensuring the operation’s success.
