Mangaluru: After spending 11 months in jail in Saudi Arabia due to an elaborate con by cybercriminals, Chandrasekhar of Kadaba returned home safely on Monday.

Wearing a Blue shirt, Chandrashekhar arrived at Mangaluru International Airport on Monday night to a rousing welcome. It was an emotional reunion with his mother Hemavati, embracing her son and shedding tears of joy. His elder brother Harish, Kokkada Sridhara Gowda, and others who played a part in his release were present.

Talking to the media representatives, Chandrashekhar said that the media reports about the case helped immensely his release from jail. “Many people from Mangalore have helped me, I am thankful to all of them for coming to my aid and helping me reach home safely. I am very happy to see Amma, I hope to get another job in the future,” he said.

Recollecting his harrowing experience Chandrashekhar said “It was very difficult when I was in jail in Saudi, I could not talk to anyone properly… Even if I was given a mobile phone, I could talk for two minutes. I was in jail for without doing anything wrong.”

Chandrashekhar had been arrested by Saudi authorities after funds totaling 22,000 Saudi Rials were deposited from a local woman’s account into the account opened in his name and swiftly rerouted to another country. It was later discovered that hackers had illicitly opened a bank account in Chandrasekhar’s name using stolen biometric data.

His friends, along with the representatives of the company where he worked, paid the fine and worked hard for his release. Finally, Chandrasekhar has reached his homeland.
