Kalaburagi: Undertrial dies after jumping off GIMS building

Kalaburagi: An undertrial died after falling off a building at Gulbarga Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS) where he had been taken for a medical examination late Friday night.

The deceased has been identified as Sheikh Javen alias Munna, who had been arrested in a theft case.

Munna had been arrested based on an arrest warrant issued for non-appearance in a court proceeding. He was taken to GIMS for a health checkup on Friday before he was to be produced before the court.

Sources at the hospital said that Munna was being taken for a Covid test after being examined by a doctor. He suddenly started running away and jumped off the building in a bid to escape custody. Due to the fall from a great height, he sustained heavy injuries, sources added.

Though he was administered emergency care, Munna could not be saved, they added.

A case has been registered at the Brahmapura police station in this regard.
