Bengaluru: The Pre-University Education Department had decided to revise the curriculum in the wake of the delay in reopening of pre-University (PU) colleges. An order regarding this was already issued which instructed that 30 per cent of syllabus of PU courses for the academic year 2020-21 must be reduced.

However, it is being commented by many that almost 70 percent of the PU sylabbus will have to be cut as PU colleges have still not reopened.

In the meantime, the Public Instruction Department has constituted a panel of experts to further discuss reduction in the syllabus of SSLC students. According to a senior official of the Department, the discussions are to determine ‘a scientific reduction of the sylabbus based on the remaining number of academic days.’

For the academic year 2020-21, only the months of December, January, February and March remain. No decision on school reopening have been taken yet.

The Department of Public Instruction has been instructed to prepare a draft report by various subject experts in the State Department of Education Research and Training (DSERT) on syllabus reduction based on the number of academic days available.

A DSERT official said that the panel of experts who had previously made the decision to reduce 30 per cent of the syllabus may now revise it to 50 per cent or 60 per cent or retain the older decision of 30 per cent. The government will take a final decision on the issue.
