The Karwar rural police sought the assistance of the bomb disposal squad to address the grave situation. Just two days prior, the forest department officials had arrested Sifran Thomas Fernandes, a resident of Chendia, on charges of killing a wild boar using a crude bomb. A case has been registered against the accused.

It is claimed that the villagers had formed a close bond with the boar. For the past 45 days, the wild boar had reportedly been visiting the village and eating food left outside houses. Unlike common wild boars known for wreaking havoc in paddy fields and attacking people, this boar purportedly refrained from destroying rice fields and instead coexisted with the community.

Villagers, it is said, began to see the wild boar as a symbol of their family deity, akin to a godly presence. When the boar was found dead on Friday, the villagers informed the forest officials, leading to the arrest of the accused.
