In a recent announcement, the Southern Railway has canceled six separate trains and four weekly trains running through Kerala, citing business and safety issues as the primary reasons for the halt. This decision is expected to impact commuters, especially with the upcoming school openings.

The Mangalore-Coimbatore Pratiwara train, which operates on Saturdays, will not run from June 8 to June 29. Additionally, services on May 25 and June 1 have been stopped. Previously, the Mangalore-Kottayam special train, intended to run on Saturdays from April 20 to June 1, had also been canceled after its initial run on April 20.

Adding to the disruption, the Southern Railway loco pilots have declared a strike starting June 1, demanding a reduction in their workload. This strike is anticipated to exacerbate travel difficulties during the school reopening period.

The following trains have been canceled:

Mangalore-Coimbatore weekly train
Coimbatore-Mangalore weekly train
Kochuveli-Nizamuddin weekly train
Nizamuddin-Kochuveli weekly train
Chennai-Velankanni weekly train
Velankanni-Chennai weekly train
