The passenger in question, Sharan (26), hailing from Uppal’s Mangalpadi, initially attempted to evade ticket inspection by seeking refuge in the train’s restroom.

As the ticket inspector approached, Sharan locked himself inside, despite repeated pleas from railway personnel, Sharan remained unresponsive and refused to exit the lavatory.

The situation intensified when the train made scheduled stops at Kannur and Kozikode stations, attracting a crowd of concerned onlookers who tried unsuccessfully to open the locked door.

Eventually, Railway Security Force and Railway Police were swiftly alerted and joined the rescue efforts. Unfortunately, their attempts to unlock the door also proved futile. When the train reached Shornur, a team of three engineers was assembled to tackle the obstinate door, but even their combined efforts fell short of success.

Faced with no other recourse, the decision was made to forcibly break the lock, gaining access to the locked toilet compartment. Sharan was taken into custody by the Railway Security Force (RPF).

Railway officials revealed that during initial interactions, the passenger claimed to hail from Maharashtra and spoke in Hindi. However, in subsequent conversations, Sharan altered his statement, asserting his Kerala origins.
