Imran Shafi (36), of Bantwal in neighboring Dakshina Kannada district, has been arrested by the police for his alleged involvement in the crime.

Shafi is the brother of the main accused Mohammed Farooq, who had been working as an assistant manager at the Kasargod outlet of the Sulthan Diamonds& Gold.

It may be recalled that Farooq had gone missing from his house at BC road in Bantwal on November 28. Later it was found to be a case of evading arrest for alleged theft of diamond ornaments. He is still at large and a manhunt has been launched to trace his whereabouts.

A team, led by Kasargod deputy superintendent of Police Balakrishnan Nair, nabbed Shafi in Bengaluru. He would be produced in court today to secure his custody for further questioning about the case, sources said.
