Ker-K’taka border regulations: DC temporarily lifts restrictions, to set-up covid testing centres soon

Mangaluru: As the students from Kasaragod region, located along the Karnataka-Kerala border, are in a quandary with the Karnataka government placing restrictions on cross-border movement, Dakshina Kannada District collector Dr KV Rajendra has revoked the order and temporarily lifted the restrictions for a week.

The state government had imposed restrictions on the Karnataka-Kerala border in the wake of increasing COVID-19 cases in Kerala. However, following the protest raised in Kasaragod district, the intervention of political parties, and considering the practical difficulties in getting the certificates, a decision was taken to temporarily lift the restriction.

“Placing restrictions on cross-border movement was imposed due to increasing COVID-19 cases in Kerala, we have not intentions to create panic among people. We have ruled that the COVID-19 negative certificate is not mandatory for the next one week starting Thursday, February 25,” said Rajendra.

“We have temporarily lifted the restrictions for a week, in the meantime, we will set-up COVID testing centers in the schools and colleges near the Karnataka-Kerala border so that they can get tested there without any hassle. As of now students and those who come to work in Mangaluru can produce their ID cards and cross the borders if they are being stopped by the officials at the checkpoints,” he added.
