Madikeri: Rain intensity in Kodagu district weakened on Sunday and the water level in the rivers has dropped, yet the fear of possible flooding persists.

Flooding at Talakaveri and Bhagamandala has reduced. Although the flooding at Kushalnagar has dropped, traffic movement is still not possible.

Fear of the collapse of the retaining wall

The retaining walls at some places along the Mangaluru – Madikeri national highway route have collapsed and there is a fear that any rise in the rain intensity may cut-off connectivity. Kaveri river flooding has inundated more than 500 houses in Kushalnagar and Koppa region. The NH along Kushalnagar remained closed on Sunday as well and people wanting to reach Kushalnagar were ferried across on boats. In one incident, although the road at Tavarekare was inundated, a bus driver nonetheless attempted to wade across the road with the vehicle only to fail miserably and get stuck.  Vehicular movement has started along Kushalnagar-Mysuru road, Kudige-Kanive road, and Kushalnagar-Hebbale roads.
