Koo is a microblogging site like Twitter. It was launched in March 2020 and won the Prime Minister’s Aatmanirbhar Bharat App Innovation Challenge in August.
The microblogging site was co-founded by entrepreneurs Aprameya Radhakrishna and Mayank Bidwatka. Radhakrishna had founded online cab booking service TaxiForSure, which was subsequently sold to Ola Cabs.
Koo app gained popularity after Twitter refused to take down some content that the government had ordered it to remove.
The idea behind the app was to allow Indian users to share their opinions in local languages. The app is meant for people to express thoughts, opinions, and strike a discussion on trending topics.
