The government has already declared a holiday on May 10 so that people exercise their right to vote. However, a few people take advantage of the holiday and visit tourist places. In a bid to avoid such a scenario, the popular tourist destination will remain closed on May 10.

Selvamani said that they verified the influx of tourists on the polling days in the past with the data maintained by Jog Management Authority. Moreover tourist arrivals from other places, as highlighted by media, would require the staff of the management authority to deliver their duty. Apart from them local vendors, taxi drivers, shopkeepers in the area would refrain from voting and do business as usual resulting in lesser voter turnout. Thus, restrictions have been imposed, he added.

Selvamani said that the staff from outstation have been directed to compulsorily vote in their respective towns. This has been done to ensure that everyone participates in voting. He hoped that everyone exercises their right and utilise the holiday in a proper manner.
