K’taka’s Cooperation, Sugar Minister Mahadeva Prasad dies; three-day mourning declared

Bengaluru/Chikkamagaluru: H S Mahadeva Prasad, Karnataka’s Cooperation and Sugar Minister passed away at the age of 58 after suffering from a heart attack on Tuesday morning.

Minister Prasad, a five-time MLA passed away at a private resort near Chikkamagaluru; he had been there to attend a programme.

The Minister was born on August 5, 1958. After being elected from the Gundlupet constituency in Chamarajnagar district, he became a Minister in the Siddaramaiah-led government in 2013. Prasad also served as the Kannada and Culture Minister in the JD(S)-BJP coalition government headed by H D Kumaraswamy during 2005-07.

Mahadeva Prasad was a close aide of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah; he quit the Janata Dal(S) and joined the Congress along with the Chief Minister in 2007.

The Karnataka Government announced one-day leave and a three-day state mourning following the Minister’s demise.
