The HDPE CNG gas pipeline project involved crossing the Phalguni River near the Kuloor bridge but heavy rainfall during the work caused partial subsidence of the highway.

The Gujarat-based contractor, responsible for the project, had deployed machinery months ago to drill and install a 1.2 km pipeline, 26 meters deep along the riverbank.

However, the drilling machine malfunctioned while installing a 200-meter section of the pipeline, leading to a halt in the work.

GAIL is currently exploring alternatives to resume the project.

The subsidence has disrupted traffic congestion during peak hours. Temporary barricades have been erected around the affected area for safety.

According to sources, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) will soon undertake repair work on the highway, with costs to be borne by GAIL.
