The HDPE CNG gas pipeline project involved crossing the Phalguni River near the Kuloor bridge but heavy rainfall during the work caused partial subsidence of the highway.
The Gujarat-based contractor, responsible for the project, had deployed machinery months ago to drill and install a 1.2 km pipeline, 26 meters deep along the riverbank.
However, the drilling machine malfunctioned while installing a 200-meter section of the pipeline, leading to a halt in the work.

According to sources, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) will soon undertake repair work on the highway, with costs to be borne by GAIL.
