Kumara Parvatha trekking banned due to heavy rains

Due to heavy rainfall and an ongoing orange alert issued by the Meteorological Department in the district, the Forest Department has imposed a ban on the Kumara Parvatha trek behind the Kukke Sri Subrahmanya temple, effective from October 3 onwards until further notice.

The ban has been enforced due to the extreme challenges and risks associated with climbing the steep hill during heavy rains, which can pose significant dangers to trekkers. The Forest Department has urged trekkers, tourists, and the general public to cooperate with this directive.

During the summer and monsoon seasons, trekking to Kumara Parvatha was restricted from May to September 29, but the ban was lifted on Saturday, allowing trekkers to visit the area. On the first day after the restriction was lifted, more than 750 trekkers made their way to Kumara Parvatha. However, the heavy and persistent rainfall in the hilly regions, including Kukke, has made trekking challenging and risky.

Although there may be a temporary break in the monsoon for a couple of days, there is a likelihood of intensified rainfall in the region thereafter. The Meteorological Department has also issued warnings of heavy rain, accompanied by strong winds and thunder, in the Ghat region, including Subrahmanya, during this period. Trekkers and visitors are advised to exercise caution and adhere to the ban for their own safety.
