The deceased, identified as Yamunaraj from Bengaluru, was a student at a private Ayurvedic college in Koteshwar.

A person fishing in a boat near the Sea Walk, spotted the body floating in the water at around 5 pm on May 3 and alerted the police. The body was then retrieved and identified through documents found in an abandoned bicycle near See Walk.

Yamunaraj’s family, hailing from Nelamangala, Bengaluru, confirmed his identity. He was known for his regular nightly calls to his elder sister, who is a doctor, but had missed contacting her on the night of May 2. His family mentioned that he was diligently preparing for an upcoming exam, despite feeling a bit down due to low marks in internal exams.

Yamunaraj, a second-year BAMS student at the Ayurveda college, had left his PG accommodation in Koteshwar at 4 pm on May 2, leaving behind his mobile phone. Friends reported that he had been feeling low for some time, possibly due to his recent academic performance.

While it is suspected that Yamunraj might have taken his own life due to academic pressure, police have not confirmed whether it was suicide or an accidental incident. Investigations are ongoing, with police officials from Kundapur City Police Station probing the matter.

The body has been sent to Manipal Hospital for postmortem examination as part of the investigation.
