Kundapura: Man duped of old gold jewellery, cash advance at jewellery store

A man filed a complaint with Byndoor police alleging a jewellery shop owner of cheating him and fleeing with his old gold jewelry as well as a Rs 45,000 cash advance.

The complainant, Udaya, a resident of Siddapura said that he had visited Nityanand Shet’s Maruti Gold Jewellers located at Uppunda here in October last year to make gold ornaments for his niece’s wedding.

He was attended to by the store manager Girish Shet and his brothers — Venkatesh and Harish. Udaya said that he wanted to make gold karimani and bangles for the upcoming wedding in exchange for his old gold jewellery.

While placing the order, Udaya handed over two gold chains, weighing 35 and 12 grams each and pair of gold bangles weighing 32 grams and a cash advance of Rs 45,000. However, they kept seeking more time to fulfill the order.

Recently when Udaya visited the store to enquire about his order he noticed that the persons he interacted with were missing and their phones were unreachable.

It later came to light that several other people too had been deceived in a similar fashion at the store. Police are investigating the case.
