Malpe: Goods vehicle carrying coconut coir catches fire

Malpe: A vehicle transporting coconut coir was completely gutted in a fire near Canara Bank in Hoode on Monday night.

According to eyewitnesses, the incident occurred due to a short circuit in a nearby power line.

Firefighters promptly arrived at the scene and successfully extinguished the flames, averting a potential disaster. The fire posed a significant threat as there were residential buildings, hotels, and shops in close proximity. Timely intervention by the fire department prevented further damage.

Residents revealed that sparks from faulty electrical wires in the area had been noticed earlier. They alerted the power distributor MESCOM to conduct an immediate inspection and take corrective measures.

The police have inspected the scene and are investigating the incident.
