Man arrested under POCSO for rape attempt on minor

Puttur: Puttur rural police arrested a 25-year-old youth for allegedly attempting to rape a minor girl at Keyyur in the taluk.

The accused, Hasainar (25) has been booked under the POSCO Act.

The incident took place on December 8, when the victim was alone at home. Taking advantage of the situation, Hasainar is said to have entered the house and attempted to rape the girl. However he fled away after she raised an alarm.

The victim later narrated her ordeal to her mother, who works as a coolie. A complaint in this regard was however lodged on the following day (December 9) after the victims elder sister persuaded her mother to approach the police.

Meanwhile, Vishwa Hindu Padishad (VHP) Puttur unit has demanded strict action against Hasainar, who they allege has been involved in several illegal activities in the past.
