It has been reported that, the locals spotted the accused applying some powder on the mangoes. When the police were alerted on this, they inspected the mangoes and also seized the powder used by him. They detained the vendor and informed the food and drugs administration for verification of the substance used. The FDA confirmed that it was calcium carbide, the use of which has been prohibited.

Four crates of mangoes in the vendor’s possession were destroyed after samples taken from the stock confirmed the presence of calcium carbide powder.
