Mangaluru: Absconding man arrested after 16 years

Mangaluru: A man who went absconding for 16 years after committing an offense under Karnataka Forest Act was rearrested by the Puttur police here.

Mohammed Rafiq M M, a Kasaragod resident had been arrested for illegal transportation of sandalwood oil from Puttur to Kerala state. After his release on bail, he went absconding and did not report for the court hearing.

The court had issued an arrest warrant against him in this regard.

The police team led by DySP Puttur sub-division Gana P Kumar arrested Rafiq in Kannur and produced him before the court., which remanded him to judicial custody.
