Mangaluru: CCB inspector Mahesh Prasad bags “Union Home Minister’s Special Operation Medal”

Mangaluru: City crime branch inspector (CCB), Mahesh Prasad, has bagged the “Union Home Minister’s Special Operation Medal” for an operation conducted against ISIS a few months back.

Mahesh Prasad, a native of Cherkady in the Udupi district.

Prasad is a past student of Mahaveer College, Moodbidri and has served as inspector in Karwar, Puttur, Manipal and Kaup police stations.

As many as 260 personnel of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) engaged in various special operations in Eastern Ladakh since May 2020.

The awardees this year also include 16 NIA personnel including lady IPS officer, DIG Sonia Narang; 45 CISF personnel; and 8 NDRF personnel. Among the state police, the honour has gone to 30 personnel of Punjab Police; 14 of Delhi Police; 10 of Kerala police; 11 of Karnataka Police and 3 of Maharashtra Police.

Notified by the Centre in 2018, the Union Home Minister’s Special Operation Medal is considered for special operations in areas such as counter-terrorism, border actions, arms control, prevention of narcotics smuggling and rescue operations and as validated by the committee of the Ministry.
