According to the police sources, the gang had arrived from north India via train to Mangaluru about 15 days back and had booked rooms at a lodge in Thokottu and bought a house for rent at Manchila. At the rented house, they had begun their plan for jewellery shop robbery.

Recently, the gang members had attacked persons going on two-wheelers during the nighttime in the Konaje and Ullal police station limits. After assaulting and verbally abusing the two-wheeler owners in Hindi, they grabbed their vehicles forcefully. Based on this, a complaint was filed with the police.
