Mangaluru has all the qualities to emerge as a key hub for IT, with significant opportunities on the horizon, said MResult founder and CEO Chandrashekhar Naik (also known as Sekhar Naik). Currently in his hometown after receiving the Karnataka Rajyotsava Award, Naik shared his journey and successes in the industry in an exclusive interview with Udayavani.

With an emphasis on developing infrastructure in Mangaluru, Naik sees immense potential for growth in the region. Born in 1961 in the village of Kurnadu, Mangaluru, Naik later moved to the United States, where he established MResult, a globally recognized IT company.

Naik has generated thousands of jobs, particularly for people from Mangaluru. Presently, MResult operates in Bengaluru, Mumbai, Mangaluru, and the USA, and recently expanded to Japan. His company provides services to major corporations worldwide.

Reflecting on his roots, Naik mentioned that he grew up reading Udayavani and Taranga during his childhood in a rural setting without television or internet. The success stories of personalities in those publications were a source of inspiration, he said.

Naik noted that in the past, opportunities to move to the U.S. were rare, with most people migrating to Mumbai for work. After completing a Bachelor’s degree in Business Management (BBM) at SDM College of Management in Mangaluru, he initially moved to Mumbai. Later, he pursued an MBA at the University of Delaware in the USA and worked with organizations like IBM Global before founding M-Result in 2004.

Despite challenges, MResult has progressed, providing data, analytics, and generative AI solutions to top companies globally. In addition to MResult, Naik founded two other companies – Cheggout and VoiceGlance.

“Today’s world is vastly different from two decades ago,” he remarked, noting that technology has transformed, requiring continuous learning. In the U.S., education emphasizes year-round assessment and open-book exams, unlike India’s closed-book system with a strong focus on final exams. However, Naik believes that consistent foundational learning is essential for individual progress.

Proud to Be a Mangalurean

Though based in the U.S., Naik expressed pride in his Mangalurean identity. He noted that Indian professionals in America are respected for their dedication. However, due to current immigration policies, securing a Green Card has become challenging, though he expects changes in the future.

Globally, there is a strong demand for professionals from Coastal Karnataka. “They are smart, have a modern mindset, and are hardworking,” Naik concluded.
