Mangaluru: The Karnataka State Pollution Control Board has launched a campaign to make Lord Ganesha statues made of turmeric.
The environment is damaged by the use of Plaster of Paris-based Lord Ganesh statues. That is why the use of eco-friendly idols of deities has been emphasized in recent times.
This year, public celebrations of Ganesh Chaturthi has been prohibited. Hence the Board came up with the idea urge people to worship Lord Ganesha idols made at home using turmeric.
To spread awareness of the "Turmeric Ganapati" campaign the Dakshina Kannada District Pollution Control Board has started sticking stickers about it on milk and oil packets. Board authorities have also decided to spread messages regarding the campaign through electricity bills.
Already, the Board has been receiving good responses to the campaign on social media sites, with many sharing photos of their home-made clay figures. The Board has published them on its official website too. The Board has also asked the general public to upload the home-made statue photos on their Facebook page.
Following are the instructions to make the Turmeric Ganapati:
- Mix turmeric with maida, rice or ragi powder in equal ratio.
- Add 7-8 tablespoons of sugar.
- Use proportional water to blend all the ingredients and make the statue from it.
- Black pepper can be used for the eyes and flowers for decoration.
The statue can later be immersed in a water container at home itself.
