Mangaluru: A local outfit, Billava Brigade, has announced to hold a unique campaign to urge the government to rename Mangaluru International Airport after local legends Koti-Chennaya.

Founder president of Billava Brigade Avinash Suvarna on December 6 told reporters that the organization will hold a month-long sticker campaign demanding the name change.

A year ago, activists from the organization held a bike rally from Kudroli Temple to the Mangaluru International Airport for the cause. A few days after the rally, Moddabidri MLA Umanath Kotian had proposed the demand of the locals in the Assembly session.

“Even after a year has passed, we have not received any official communication from the government about the acceptance of the demand. We urge the government to send a formal proposal to the central government to rename the airport at the earliest,” Avinash said.

As a mark of protest and as a reminder to the government, a sticker campaign will be held. “We have decided to conduct a sticker campaign in eight assembly constituencies demanding the renaming of the airport after local legends Koti-Chennaya.  A public convention will also be held after the campaign ends,” he said.
