Mangaluru: Localities raise objection against quarantine facility in their area

Mangaluru: Residents of Kodialguthu raised objections against the quarantine facility arranged at a hostel in their locality citing that they are at high risk of contracting the infection if anyone in the quarantine facility tests positive for COVID-19.

The district administration has identified more than 17 hotels and 12 hostels as a quarantine facility for the foreign returnees, who will be undergoing a 14-day quarantine in these places, which will be monitored by doctors assigned by the health department.

The residents of Kodialguthu raised objection against after receiving the news that a hostel in their locality has been selected as the quarantine facility for foreign returnees.

However, Mangaluru south MLA Vedyavas Kamath visited the spot and assured them that they are not at high risk of contracting the infection if anyone in the quarantine facility and the district administration has taken up all the measures keeping the safety of the localities in mind.

“All the foreign returnees were screened as per the standard operating procedure to ensure that they were asymptomatic. The passengers were taken to their chosen place of accommodation in KSRTC buses. They will be undergoing a 14-day quarantine in the places, which will be monitored by doctors assigned by the health department,” informed Deputy Commissioner Sindhu Rupesh.

Sindhu has also directed to the director of Mangaluru International Airport (MIA), drawing his attention to certain inadequacies pointed out by some passengers on their arrival at the airport here.

It may be recalled that the district administration had recently faced a challenge to perform the funeral of the COVID-19 positive woman.
