Mangaluru: Navaratri festivities to take place under Covid norms; temples allowed to celebrate

Mangaluru: Fisheries minister, S Angara, said that Navaratri festivities will be held in the district by complying with Covid-19 protocol.

He was speaking after presiding over the meeting of the district religious council held in the city on Friday October 1.

Angara said, ” Temples including Goddess Durga Parameshwari in Kateel, Lord Gokarnanatheswara and Goddess Mangaladevi temple in the city can celebrate Navaratri festival. However, the guidelines announced by the district administration last year will be applicable this year too. We must ensure that we strictly follow covid protocols.”

He further said, ” Temple managements must create awareness regarding vaccination among the devotees and organize vaccination camps in collaboration with the district administration.”

Deputy Commissioner of Dakshina Kannada district, Dr K V Rajendra said that all must wear masks and maintain social distancing.

Also, from October 2, the Swachh Bharat campaign is being undertaken in the district and temples must collect plastic waste and cooperate with the concerned to dispose of the waste, he said.
