Mangaluru: Online Taxi Drivers Association protest over the hike in fuel prices

Mangaluru: Dakshina Kannada District Online Taxi Drivers Association, staged a protest in front of the clock tower opposing the hike in prices of petrol and diesel on March 9.

The protestors held nooses in their hands and demanded that the operators like Ola and Uber pay the price fixed by the government for online taxi drivers.

As the government raised the petrol and diesel prices, B K Imthiyaz, President of Dakshina Kannada District Online Taxi Drivers Association asserted that online taxi drivers are suffering.

Talking about the problems faced by the driver, he added, ” They are not able to pay the EMIs to the banks, run their families, or pay the school fees of their children.”

Imithiyaz on the expectation from the state government, ” There were high expectations from the Karnataka government’s budget. But all our expectations were shattered.”

Alleging that the union government is favoring the capitalists instead of protecting the interests of the poor.

On Ola and Uber not paying the amount as per the government’s direction, he asserted that they should pay and that if they fail to hike their commission, they will hold an indefinite strike.
