The event, organized by the Department of Forensic Science, focused on the recently enacted Bharathiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023; Bharathiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, 2023; and Bharathiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023.
Anupam Agrawal, IPS, Commissioner of Police, Mangaluru, served as the Chief Guest and Resource Person. In his keynote address, Agrawal provided an in-depth analysis of the evolving landscape of cybercrime and the new legal frameworks designed to combat these threats.
He emphasized the importance of public awareness and collaboration across sectors to tackle cyber threats effectively. He also urged the public to prioritize digital safety, noting that cybercrime is a growing concern worldwide. He mentioned that the public can report cybercrime issues by contacting helpline number ‘1930’.

Dr. B.H. Sripathi Rao, Pro Vice-Chancellor of Yenepoya (Deemed to be University), presided over the session. He stressed the need for academic institutions to play a proactive role in educating students and the public on cybersecurity issues.
The event saw active participation from approximately 1,500 students and faculty members. Dr. Arun A. Bhagawath, Principal and Dean of the Faculty of Science, commended the Department of Forensic Science for its efforts in organizing the session. The event was coordinated by Dr. Shareena P., Dr. Jeevan Raj, Mr. Narayan Sukumara A., and Dr. Reject Paul M.P., who heads the Department of Forensic Science.
Four students from the Department of Forensic Science, Ms. Anova Sunil, Ms. Devapriya B.S., Ms. Bhagya Mitra, and Ms. Shani K.P., were honored for their bravery in assisting a girl during a public incident. They were recognized for their quick actions in helping the girl reach a hospital.
The session concluded with an interactive Q&A segment, where participants engaged with the experts to gain further insights into cybercrime and the recent legal developments. The National Service Scheme (NSS) unit of YIASCM played a significant role in the successful execution of the event.
