Mangaluru: Police solve two chain snatching incidents; Four arrested

Mangaluru: Police said they have solved two of the chain snatching incidents reported and have arrested four individuals in this connection.

As per the police, Arif alias Vamanjoor Arif from Vamanjoor and Mohammed Hanif from Bondel allegedly stole the 8-gram gold chain worn by a woman in Paldane, Neerumarga on April 12. The duo, riding a bike, had approached the woman asking for direction and fled with her gold chain.

Based on the complaint by the woman at the Mangaluru Rural Police Station, the accused were arrested on April 25, police said.

During interrogation, both revealed information about another robbery. The duo allegedly confessed to having stolen a two-wheeler parked at Kelarai on March 23 and used the same for another robbery at Bolpugudde in Kavoor where they snatched a 10-gram gold chain from a lone woman walking.

The duo also revealed they had sold the gold to a jewelry shop. Based on the information, the owners of Nakshatra Jewellers in Kavoor — Abdul Samad PP and Mohammed Riyaz — have also been arrested, police added.

The two gold chains weighing 18 grams, and the stolen two-wheeler used in the crime were seized, police said.

Vamanjoor Arif is a habitual offender and has 18 cases pending against him including mugging, robbery, attempt to murder, and so on at various police stations around the city, police added.
