Mangaluru: Religious & commercial org get police notice reminding noise levels

Mangaluru: Police notices have been served to all religious and commercial establishments in the Mangluru Commissionerate on April 6, reminding them to follow the noise pollution rules of the environment ministry.

The move comes after the controversy over removing loudspeakers at places of worship, in the past few days.

The notices were served by the respective police stations under which the establishment fall. Temples, mosques, churches, venues conducting outdoor events, malls, and popular eateries are included among them.

The notices mentioned the Ambient Noise Standards notified by the Ministry of Environment and Forests under the noise pollution (Regulation and Control) Rules – 2000 amended -2010 framed under the Environment Protection Act 1986 for residential, commercial and industrial areas during the day hours (from 6 AM till 10 PM) and night hours (10 PM till 6 AM).

Strict actions will be taken against those who fail to follow these rules, the notices warned.
