Mangaluru: Most of the marijuana supplied across the southern States originates in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, according to reports.

The marijuana is grown on the hills of the Eastern Ghats in Andhra Pradesh by Naxals who then sell it to conduits carrying it to Bengaluru, from where it spreads out to districts in neighbouring States.

The proceeds from the sale of marijuana finances the activities and operations of Naxals.

The marijuana entering Mangaluru is carried via Kasargod and Kannur districts in Kerala.

Police often fear entering areas infested by the Naxals giving them all the liberties needed to cultivate the plants unhindered.
