Massive protest meeting seeking justice for Sowjanya held in Belthangady

Belthangady: A massive protest meeting urging justice for Sowjanya, who was found raped and murdered in 2012, was held at the Taluk Adalita Soudha here on Sunday.

Addressing the public meeting organised by the Prajaprabhutva Vedike and Rashtriya Hindu Jagarana Vedike (Belthangady), Sri Dharmapalanatha Swamiji of the Mangaluru branch of the Adichunchanagiri Matha said that it is tragic that the investigations into the case have failed to provide justice to the victim Sowjanya and her family.

No girl should suffer injustice and that is why this struggle. There is always support for lawful protest, he said.

The role of the investigating police officer and the doctor who conducted the autopsy should be investigated, the seer said and added that protection should be provided to Santhosh Rao who was acquitted by the court in the case as well as Sowjanya’s mother Kusumavathi, and her family.

Sri Rama Sene founder Pramod Muthalik said that Sri Rama Sene gives full support to the struggle for justice. The government should order a reinvestigation into the case, he added.

Mahesh Shetty Thimarodi, who has been supporting the struggle, said that the fight will be expanded all over the state to demand justice for Sowjanya.

Addressing the gathering Sowjanya’s mother Kusumavathi said “By gathering in such large numbers, you give me strength to continue this fight for justice for my daughter,” and demanded that the culprits behind her daughter’s death should be punished.

Prominent persons including lawyer Mohit Kumar, Prasanna Ravi, Thammanna Shetty, and others addressed the protestors.
