Minister Sudhakar reacts over Vanivilas hospital protest

Bengaluru: After medical staff at Vani Vilas hospital walked out to register their protest, as one patient who had come in for her delivery was tested positive for COVID-19, Minister for Medical Education Sudhakar met the staff and assured them that their safety is the topmost priority of the government "As soon as I returned from Davangere, I visited Vani Vilas Hospital and met doctors, nurses, and staff who had expressed serious concerns. I assured them that their safety is the topmost priority of the government and we will take every possible measure to ensure their well-being," tweeted Sudhakar. A pregnant woman from Padarayanapura, who had not disclosed her address was tested positive for Covid-19 a day before her delivery and this had triggered panic among healthcare staff at Vani Vilas hospital on Saturday, May 9. She was admitted on May 7 and tested positive on May 8. She was shifted to the Trauma Care Centre on Saturday and delivered there. After she was tested positive as many as of 18 staffers who had attended to the woman have been quarantined. This includes 10 doctors, six staff nurses, and two group D employees. Meanwhile, secondary contacts are being identified. They will undergo swab testing after five days, till then their services will be utilized only in the isolation area and they’ll work with PPEs, informed sources. Staging a protest, some staff demanded that a special team be set up at the hospital to handle incoming cases.
