M’luru: No end in sight for foul-smelling drain at DKZP School at Bikarnakatte

Mangaluru: It has been years since Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave the clarion call of “Swacchh Bharat.” However, there seems to be no end in sight for the wastewater flowing in open drains in front of the DKZP Government Higher Primary School in Bikarnakatte here.

The foul-smelling wastewater flowing in the open stormwater drain has been laid at the entrance of the school has been inconveniencing students of the school and the public alike.

After a report was published in the Udayavani newspaper highlighting the problem, municipal authorities had inspected the spot. They had instructed the residential apartments and nearby homes not to let wastewater into the drain. The municipal authorities had cleaned the drain and removed the silt, mud, and plastic waste accumulated from the drain.

However, the problem still persists. Plastic and other waste have been discarded again in the drain and wastewater is still being let into the drain. The issue needs urgent attention as the area has been a breeding spot for mosquitoes and flies, locals say.
