Mangaluru: Dakshina Kannada Member of Parliament Nalin Kumar Kateel on Thursday, March 12 urged the Railway Ministry to restart the Bengaluru-Karwar express (Train Nos. 16513/14 and 16595/96) that was cancelled following the introduction of the Yeshwantpur-Vasco express (07309).
Kateel said this in a meeting of the ministry at the Lok Sabha discussing demands for grants of the ministry.
Kateel further stated that while the introduction of the new train is much appreciated, the cancellation of the old trains has led to , connectivity between coastal Karnataka and Mysuru region has been cut off. Besides that, the cancellation also deprives people travelling between Karwar and Mangaluru of a convenient mode of transport.
The MP requested the ministry to create a separate division for Mangaluru or bring Mangaluru under South Western Railways from Konkan Railways and to add two more platforms at Mangaluru Central railway station.
