Mulki bandh demanding freedom from toll; protests

Mulki/Padubidri: Condemning the arrogant statements of Navayuga Company, the collection of toll even before the highway works have been completed and failure to give toll exemption for local vehicles, a Mulki Bandh and a protest rally was organized to Hejmady Toll Plaza under the leadership of Mulki Abhivarddhi Nagarika Samithi on Tuesday Feb 5th.

More than 300 protestors joined at Mulki bus stop for a meeting and then took out a padayatra to Hejmady Toll Plaza.

MLA Umanath Kotiyan, former MLA Vinaya Kumar Sorake, K Abhaya Chandra Jain and K Amarnath Shetty participated in the meeting and Mr Shetty said that it was proper to give exemption to vehicles from within the radius of 7km in the locality without testing the temper of the people.

Chief Minister’s parliamentary secretary Ivan D’Souza spoke and said, during the budget session, I will put forth the stand against Navayuga Company at the Legislative Assembly and Legislative council meetings with assistance from Karavali MLA’s.

All government offices, banks, post offices, insurance offices, all car and rickshaw drivers from Mulki and Karnad and merchants kept their store closed and gave support to the Mulki Bandh which was successfully a complete bandh. On the same occasion, a memorandum was submitted to the officials requesting toll exemption for local vehicles.

Bijadi: Service road work to begin from today

Koteshwara: The construction work for the service road and drainage will begin from February 6th, informed Navayuga Company senior manager Raghavendra.

In the first phase, work on drainage will be taken in front of Bijadi Canara Bank and soon the service road will be completed , he informed.
