Udupi: With a commitment to a clean environment, festivals and celebrations should be reoriented towards environmental conservation. In this regard, Udayavani and Udupi Municipality have launched the ‘Swachha’ Naga Panchami campaign.

During the Naga Panchami festival, items such as camphor, oil, rice, tender coconut water, and incense sticks are often found scattered in plastic wrappers, and tender coconut shells are seen littered around.

Given the rising cases of dengue, malaria, and other infectious diseases, greater attention must be paid to maintaining cleanliness in the environment.

To address this, the municipality has made appropriate arrangements for waste collection in Naga shrines. The municipality has identified public naga shrines in 35 wards of the city and will provide dustbins and bags at these locations.

The municipality’s sanitation team will collect organic waste from the naga shrines using vehicles. Other local administrative bodies across the state can adopt similar waste collection models, thereby making a unique contribution to environmental conservation.
