The Maa Durga is worshipped in her different forms and names. ‘Shailaputri’ is the avatar of the goddess worshiped on the first day of Navaratri. It means Goddess Parvati, daughter of mountain king Himavanta. She is identified as Adishakti.

Shailaputri, dressed in white, is a lover of jasmine. In some places, there is a tradition of making a clay idol of the goddess and worshiping it.

Benefits of Worship

To the believers, fruits of “Dharmartha, Kama, Moksha, Chatubhuvidham, Purushartha, Phalava” can be obtained by worshiping Shailaputri Devi. All the desires of the mind will be fulfilled. All difficulties will be removed. By gaining control over the mind, the power of sense restraint is provided.

Shailaputri’s form not only indicates the pattern of life we should follow, but also inspires us to develop a peaceful demeanor.

Shailaputri is calm. Wearing white clothes on this day evokes a sense of devotion and peace. This white color tells that one can please God only when the body and mind are pure and transparent.
