NEP will be implemented next year says DyCM Ashwath Narayan

Mangaluru: Deputy CM Ashwath Narayan said that the National Education Policy 2020 will be implemented from next year in Karnataka, adding that NEP will pave way for the concept of new India.

He was virtually addressing a gathering after inaugurating the 41st Foundation Day of Mangaluru varsity and releasing a video series on the National Education Policy 2020 in Kannada made by Professor Karunakar A Kotegar, Mangalore University Syndicate member.

Narayan informed that the cabinet has approved the report submitted by the task force constituted by the State government to implement NEP 2020 and that the structural and administrative reforms needed for implementation of NEP will be taken up.

He also said that the government will provide all help for the implementation of NEP as sustainable development is possible only through education.

Professor Karunakar A Kotegar said that NEP is focused on critical thinking and creativity.

Kaiga Generating Station director, R Sathyanarayana, Kaiga delivering the Foundation Day lecture said that the university should facilitate a vibrant process that meets the needs of current pupils, staff, society and prepares students for an ever-changing world. He stressed that the university should cater to the needs of the society and skill the students for employability.

Universities are not only places where well adapted formal learning programs are delivered but also where knowledge can be restructured and reorganized into a coherent whole and where workplace learning is designed and analyzed, he added.

Universities have to convert into lifelong learning institutions and also engage in community service programmes, he said.
