NMPT to exhibit paintings depicting traditional art forms on walls of cruise terminal

Mangaluru: Students and staff of five leading colleges of Mangaluru participated in a painting competition, held at NMPT Cruise Terminal, on October 13. “Traditional Art Forms and Culture of Karnataka” was the theme of the painting competition.

Themes as diverse as ‘Yakshagana’, ‘Keelu Kudure’, ‘Kambala’, ‘Puja Kunitha’, ‘Devi Mahatme’, ‘Bhoota Kola’, ‘Car Festival’ and tribal art of Karnataka were depicted on canvases of size 12-feet X 10-feet.

These paintings will be exhibited by NMPT authorities on the walls of the Cruise Terminal, with suitable captions, to enthuse the visiting foreign and domestic tourists regarding the richness and variety of the art forms and culture of the state.

A release said that the artistic skills and enthusiasm of the participants were noteworthy and all the participants, including the prize winners, were encouraged by the Port authorities.

The team representing Canara College, Mangaluru, led by Vaishno Prasad bagged first prize for depicting Yakshagana in a unique manner. St Agnes College, Mangaluru, under Jayashri B was awarded second prize for the ‘Keelu Kudure’ painting while the team representing Dr Muralidhar Rao, Govindadasa College Surathkal, led by Vindo Shetty won third prize for painting on ‘Bhoota Kola and Yakshagana’.

The teams from SDM Law College, Yenepoya Institute of Technology and Engineering and St Agnes College (students) were awarded consolation prizes.
